Engine Code BLV
Oil Pump
• In order to be able to remove the oil pump, the transmission must be removed.
• For engines that have a plug (- item 2 - in => [ Oil Pan, Oil Pump and Oil Filter Housing Overview ] Oil Pan, Oil Pump and Oil Filter Housing Overview) in the cylinder block, the control piston in the oil pump can be checked without removing the oil pump. Do this by removing the plug in the cylinder block and then removing the plug in the oil pump. This plug is tightened to 35 Nm.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Puller (T10055)
• M10 x 30 Threaded Stud Bolt (Standard)
Removing
- Remove the transmission.
- Remove the drive plate.
- Remove the sealing flange on the transmission side. Refer to => [ Sealing Flange, Transmission Side ] Service and Repair.
- Rotate the engine using the vibration damper, to the adjusting mark.
• The milled chain sprocket tooth on the crankshaft must align with the main bearing cap joint - arrow A -.
• The tab on the intermediate shaft timing chain sprocket must align with the tab - arrow B - behind it.
• This position is reached at every fourth turn.
- Loosen the oil pump chain sprocket bolt, but do not remove it. While doing that, counter hold the vibration damper using the counter-holder tool (T10069)
- Mark the position of the timing chain to the oil pump chain sprockets with a water resistant marker.
- Remove the chain tensioner - arrow -.
- Remove the chain tensioner with tensioning rail bolts - arrows -.
- Remove the chain sprocket bolt and then remove the chain sprocket and timing chains from the oil pump.
- Remove the oil pump bolts - arrows -.
- Screw a M10 x 30 threaded stud bolt (standard) - 1 - into the oil pump shaft.
- Screw the puller (T10055) with the adapter (T10055/3) onto the threaded stud bolt.
- Pull the oil pump out of the cylinder block.
Installing
- Install the oil pump and tighten the bolts - arrows - to specification, see - item 4 - in the => [ Oil Pan, Oil Pump and Oil Filter Housing Overview ] Oil Pan, Oil Pump and Oil Filter Housing Overview
• The O-ring as well as the oil pump and chain sprockets must be replaced.
• If the camshaft timing chain is to be replaced, refer to => [ Camshaft and Oil Pump Timing Chains ] Camshaft and Oil Pump Timing Chains.
- Install the large chain sprocket into the timing chain and on the oil pump so that the tab on the chain sprocket aligns with the mark on the cylinder block - B -. The marks made during removal must align.
• The milled chain sprocket tooth on the crankshaft must align with the main bearing cap joint - arrow A -.
- If the large chain sprocket cannot be installed, rotate the oil pump slightly.
- Insert the small chain sprocket with the chain installed, into the recess - arrow - and install the bolt hand tight. The marks made during removal must align.
- Now, install the chain tensioner with tensioning rail.
- Release the locking splines on the chain tensioner - A - with a small screwdriver and press the tensioning rail against the chain tensioner.
- Install the chain tensioner in this position and tighten the bolts - arrows - to 8 Nm.
- Install the chain tensioner - arrow -.
- Tighten the oil pump chain sprocket bolt to 60 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn. To do so, secure the vibration damper using the counter-holder tool (T10069). Use strength category 10.9 bolts only.
- Install the sealing flange, refer to => [ Sealing Flange, Transmission Side ] Service and Repair.
Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
