Panoramic Sunroof, Creaking Noise on Uneven Roads

Noise heard from the Panoramic sunroof while driving on uneven roads.

Technical Background

1. Creaking noise between slide on front glass lid and deflector in closed condition.

2. Creaking noise on the seal between front and rear glass lid.

3. Creaking noise on the inner seal of the front glass lid.

4. Tension in attachment of front glass lid.

5. Tension in installation of complete Panoramic sunroof.

Production Solution

Points 1, 2 and 3 above:

^ Slides and seals greased.

Points 4 and 5 above:

^ Constant monitoring.

Service

^ Perform test drive to verify complaint.

1. Fix the creaking noise between slides and deflector

2. Fix the creaking noise on the seal between front and rear glass lid

3. Fix the creaking noise on the inner seal on the front glass lid

4. Fix the tension of the attachment of front glass lid

5. Fix the tension on the Panoramic sunroof

1. Fix the creaking noises between slides and deflector

^ Open the glass lid to latch 1.





^ Lubricate the left and right slide (illustration 1, yellow arrows) on the underside (contact surface to deflector) with grease (part number: G 000 450 02).

2. Fix the creaking noises on the seal between front and rear glass lid





^ Thoroughly clean the seal on the rear glass lid (illustration 2, No.1)

^ With concentrated window cleaner (part number: G 052 164 M1) - dilute the cleaner and put it with a spray bottle on a fluff-free cloth and thoroughly clean the seal on the glass lid.

^ Lightly grease the seal on the rear glass lid (illustration 2, No.1) with a special paste (part number: G 052141

3. Fix the creaking noises on the inner seal on the front glass lid

^ Completely open the glass lid.

^ Thoroughly clean the inner seal.

^ With concentrated window cleaner (part number: G 052 164 M1) - dilute the cleaner and put it with a spray bottle on a fluff-free cloth and thoroughly clean the inner seal.

^ Lightly grease the inner seal with special paste (part number: G 052 141 A2).

4. Fix the tension of the attachment of front glass lid





Remove right and left hand front glass lid side trim (illustration 3, No.1). See Repair Manual group 60 Sunroof, Removal and Installation, Glass Panel in ElsaWeb.

^ Loosen the bolts on the front glass lid and adjust it according to the repair manual. The instructions must be strictly observed. See Repair Manual group 60 Sunroof, General Information, Front and Rear Glass Panel Height, Adjusting in ElsaWeb.

^ Install the covers (illustration 3, No.1) on the front glass lid (left and right). See Repair Manual group 60 Sunroof, Removal and Installation, Glass Panel in ElsaWeb.

5. Fix the tension on the Panoramic sunroof

^ Remove headliner. See Repair Manual group 70 Interior Trim, Removal and Installation, Headliner in ElsaWeb.

^ Loosen all bolts on the Panoramic sunroof frame.





^ Stake the front and rear sunroof frame on the motor with a drill (diameter 10 mm) (illustration 4, yellow arrows).

^ Retighten according to the repair manual.

^ Install headliner. See Repair Manual group 70 Interior Trim, Removal and Installation, Headliner in ElsaWeb.

^ Test drive vehicle to confirm repair.
