Impact Sensor: Service and Repair
Crash Sensors

Front Door Crash Sensors, Rabbit from MY 2004
• Removal and installation is described for the right side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the left side is identical.
Removal
Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove outer door panel.
- Separate wiring harness - 1 - from crash sensor - 3 -.
- Remove the two bolts - 2 - (2.5 Nm).
Installation
- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
- Switch on ignition.
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.
- Connect vehicle battery.
Driver Airbag Crash Sensor, Rabbit from MY 2009
• The Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) is located on the front door subframe.
Removal
Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove front door trim:
- Disconnect the wiring harness - 1 - from the driver side airbag crash sensor (G179) - 2 -.
- Push the catch - arrow - upward with a screwdriver and remove the crash sensor from the subframe, arrows - A - and - B -.
Installation
- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
- Switch on ignition.
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.
- Connect vehicle battery. Refer to
Passenger Airbag Crash Sensor, Rabbit from MY 2009
• The Front Passenger Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G180) is located on the front door subframe.

- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove front door trim:
Removal and installation of Front Passenger Front Airbag Crash Sensor (G180) is identical to removal and installation of the Driver Side Airbag Crash Sensor (G179) and the procedure can be derived from this:

Rear Wheel Housing Crash Sensors, 2-door
• Removal and installation is described for the right side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the left side is identical.
Removal
Read the Safety Instructions for working with airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, General Safety Precautions.
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.
- Remove backrest. Refer to => [ Backrest ] Rear Seats
- Remove upper B-pillar trim. Refer to => [ Upper B-pillar Trim ] Pillar and Side Trim
- Remove side trim. Refer to => [ Side Trim, 2-door ] Pillar and Side Trim
- Press connector lock - 1 - toward rear - arrow - and disconnect connector - 2 - from crash sensor - 4 -.
- Remove the two bolts - 3 - (9 Nm).
Installation
- To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
- Switch on ignition.
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.
- Connect vehicle battery.
Rear Wheel Housing Crash Sensors, 4-door
• Removal and installation is described for the right side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the left side is identical.
Removal

- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Rear Seats.
Vehicles through 06.2005
- Remove 4-door side upholstery:
• with rear side airbags: => [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag, 4-door ] Rear Seats
• without rear side airbags:=> [ Side Upholstery, 4-door ] Rear Seats
- Remove the wheel housing trim, 4-door, refer to => [ Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door ] Service and Repair
Vehicles with rear side airbag, from 06.2005
- Remove 4-door side upholstery:
• with rear side airbags => [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag, 4-door ] Rear Seats
- Remove the wheel housing trim, 4-door, refer to => [ Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door ] Service and Repair
Vehicles without rear side airbag, from 06.2005
- Remove wheel housing trim on 4-door vehicles without rear side airbag: => [ Wheel Housing Trim, 4-door, Vehicles Without Rear Side Airbag from June 2005 ] Service and Repair
- Press connector lock - 1 - toward rear - arrow - and disconnect connector - 2 - from crash sensor - 4 -.
- Remove the two bolts - 3 - (9 Nm).
