Brake Caliper
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)
Removing
The work sequence applies only for replacement, or the following service work on the brake caliper housing.
- Remove wheel.
- Attach bleeder hose of bleeder bottle onto bleeder valve of brake caliper housing and open bleeder valve.
- Install brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2 ).
- Close bleeder valve and remove bleeder bottle.
- Remove brake hose.
- Remove clip - 1 -.
- Press brake lever - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and disengage parking brake cable - 3 -.
- Counter-hold guide pins and remove attachment bolts from brake caliper housing.
- Remove brake caliper housing from brake carrier.
- Remove brake pads from brake caliper housing.
Installing
• The piston is pushed back => [ Install pistons at knurling wheel of special
tool by turning toward right. Do not damage protective caps. ] Removal and Replacement.
- Insert brake pads and pad retaining springs - arrows - into brake carrier.
- Remove protective foil on backing plate of brake pad.
- Secure brake caliper housing using new self-locking bolts.
• Repair kit includes four self-locking hex-bolts which must always be installed.
- Press brake lever - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and engage parking brake cable - 3 -.
- Install clip - 1 -.
- Attach brake hose to brake caliper housing.
- Remove brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2).
- Bleeding brake system:

- Adjusting parking brake => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
- Mount wheels.
• Depress brake pedal several times firmly before moving vehicle to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Check brake fluid level.
