Coolant Pump






Coolant Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)

Coolant additive (G 12 plus-plus)

Removing

- Remove the small coolant pipe. Refer to --> [ Small Coolant Pipe ] Small Coolant Pipe.

- Remove the coolant pump toothed belt. Refer to --> [ Coolant Pump Toothed Belt ] Coolant Pump Toothed Belt.

- Remove the throttle valve control module. Refer to --> [ Throttle Valve Control Module ] Removal and Replacement.

- Disconnect the electrical connector - 1 - from the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.





- Remove the coolant pump bolts - 5 through 1 -.





- Remove the coolant pump from the centering pin and remove the oil cooler.

Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to the following:

Tightening sequence and specification, refer to --> [ Coolant Pump Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification ] Coolant Pump and Thermostat Assembly Overview.

Install in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

Replace the gaskets and O-rings.

- Clean the O-ring sealing surfaces.

- Lubricate the O-rings - 4 - with coolant additive G 12 plus-plus.





- Make sure both centering pins are installed in the cylinder block.

- Install the connection piece - 2 - into the oil cooler - 1 -.

- Mount and install the coolant pump - 3 - onto the connection piece and onto the centering pins in the cylinder block:

If a new coolant pump was installed, then the protective cap - arrow - must be removed.
