Balance Shaft, Exhaust Side






Balance Shaft, Exhaust Side

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)

Removing

- Remove upper timing chain cover. Refer to --> [ Upper Timing Chain Cover ] Upper Timing Chain Cover.

- Remove the lower timing chain cover. Refer to --> [ Lower Timing Chain Cover ] Lower Timing Chain Cover.

- Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to --> [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.

- Remove the balance shaft timing chain. Refer to --> [ Balance Shaft Timing Chain ] Balance Shaft Timing Chain.

- Remove the exhaust side balance shaft bolt - 1 - and shaft.





Installing

Tightening specifications, refer to --> [ Balance Shaft Timing Chain Assembly Overview ] Balance Shaft Timing Chain Assembly Overview.

- Check the installation position of the balance shaft pipe - arrow -:





The pin from the balance shaft pipe must fit into the groove - arrow -

Squeeze the pipe together slightly in order to get it into the installed position.

Install the pipe into the crankcase and bend both halves one time to the inside.

- Lubricate the balance shaft bearing with engine oil.

- Install the exhaust side balance shaft.

- Before tightening the bolt - 1 - make sure the balance shaft lays level on the camshaft.





If the balance shaft is not level, then the pipe for the balance shaft must be installed again.

The rest of the installation is basically a reverse of the removal sequence.
