Drive Axle, with Triple Roller Joint AAR2600i

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench 40-200 Nm (VAG 1332)

Wedge tool (T10161)

Removing

- Loosen the drive axle to wheel hub bolt. refer to one of the following:

If equipped with a hex bolt, refer to --> [ Drive Axle Hex Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle Hex Bolt, Loosening and Tightening.

If equipped with a 12 point bolt, refer to --> [ Drive Axle 12 Point Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle 12 Point Bolt, Loosening and Tightening.

When doing this, the vehicle must not rest on its wheels, otherwise the wheel bearing may be damaged.

- Remove the wheel.

- Remove the lower noise insulation.

- Remove the ball joint nuts - arrows -.





- Remove the lower control arm from the ball joint studs.

- Pull the outer Constant Velocity (CV) joint out of the wheel hub and secure the drive axle to the vehicle using wire.

- Place the (T10161) between the transmission housing and the joint piece.





- Press the joint piece out of the transmission by tapping the (T10161) with a hammer.

- Remove the drive axle.

Installing

- Install a new securing ring into the groove of the joint piece pin.

- Align the outer splines of the joint piece with the inner splines of the transmission.

- Grasp the drive axle by hand and slide the joint piece in until seated.

- Slide the joint piece into the transmission with a quick shove.

The sliding part in the joint piece can be used for this. Do not pull the drive axle out of the joint piece too far when doing this.

Do not use a hammer under any circumstances!

- Check the drive axle in the transmission for proper seating by pulling on the joint piece against the resistance of the securing ring.

For this check, do not pull the drive axle but pull on the joint piece only.

- Insert the outer CV joint as far as possible into the wheel hub splines.

- Install the lower noise insulation.

- Install the lower control arm to the ball joint studs and install the nuts - arrows -.





Make sure that the ball joint boot is not damaged or twisted.

- Tighten the drive axle to wheel hub bolt, refer to one of the following:

If equipped with a hex bolt, refer to --> [ Drive Axle Hex Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle Hex Bolt, Loosening and Tightening.

If equipped with a 12 point bolt, refer to --> [ Drive Axle 12 Point Bolt, Loosening and Tightening ] Drive Axle 12 Point Bolt, Loosening and Tightening.

When doing this, the vehicle must not rest on its wheels, otherwise the wheel bearing may be damaged.

- Install the wheel and tighten. refer to --> [ Wheel Bolt Tightening Specification ] .
