Transmission Cooler: Service and Repair
Oil Cooler
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm dia. (3094)
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Removing
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Remove battery and battery holder
- Place lint-free cloth on to oil cooler and transmission to absorb exiting coolant.
- Clamp off coolant hoses using Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm dia. (3094).
- Open spring clips and disconnect coolant hoses from transmission oil cooler.
- Remove bolts - A - and remove transmission oil cooler - B -.
CAUTION!
Coolant must not drip into transmission!
Installing
- Replace O-rings - C - of oil cooler - B -.
- Install oil cooler - B -, when doing this, pay attention to O-rings - C -.
- Install new bolts - A - and tighten to 20 Nm plus an additional 90° (1/4 turn).
- Install coolant hoses on oil cooler and remove Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm dia. (3094).
- Insert new filter with seat facing downward and tighten housing to 20 Nm.
• After repairing, you do not have to change filter again when filling oil.
- Install battery and battery holder
- Check coolant level and top off coolant if necessary.
- After repairing, fill oil without replacing filter --> [ Transmission, Changing Oil, Filter and Adjusting Oil Level ] Transmission, Changing Oil, Filter and Adjusting Oil Level.
CAUTION!
Do not start engine while checking coolant level, because direct-shift transmission oil has still not been added.
