Shift Cable: Adjustments
Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Selector lever cable must always be adjusted if:
• Selector lever cable was removed from transmission.
• Engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.
• Parts of subframe mount were removed and installed.
• Cable or shift mechanism were removed and installed.
• Engine/transmission positions were changed, e.g. installed free of tension.
Adjusting
- Place selector lever in position "P".
- Install cable with loosened adjustment screw - arrow - and new lock washers - A - and - B -.
- Push lever on transmission back - arrow -. Bring transmission into position "P".
• Raise vehicle to ensure that transmission is in "P" (parking lock is engaged). Both front wheels must not be able to be turned together in one direction.
- Tap lightly on selector lever handle toward front and rear, however do not shift out of "P" under any circumstances.
Thus, optimal position of inner cable is found.
- Tighten adjustment screw - arrow - to 13 Nm.
This ends the adjustment.
