Right Flange Shaft or Stub Shaft Seals, Replacing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Sleeve (3158)
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)
• Grease (G 052 735)
Removing
- Remove right wheel.
- Remove noise insulation
- Remove right drive axle.
Vehicles with intermediate shaft
- After removing right drive axle- A -, remove intermediate shaft - B - from mounting bracket - C - - arrows - and pull off from transmission stub shaft.
Continued for all vehicles
- Place appropriate receptacle underneath transmission.
- Removing mounting bolt - arrow - for stub shaft or flange shaft.
- Pull out stub shaft or flange shaft together with compression spring.
- Pry out seal with a lever.
Installing
- Lightly oil new seal on outer circumference.
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128).
- Drive new seal to stop; be sure not to distort seal.
- Insert stub shaft or flange shaft.
- Install new conical head bolt for securing stub shaft or flange shaft and tighten to 30 Nm.
Vehicles with intermediate shaft
- Replace stub shaft O-ring.
- Grease splines on stub shaft using grease for clutch disc splines (G 000 100).
- Guide intermediate shaft - B - through mounting bracket - C - on to transmission stub shaft.
- Tighten intermediate shaft to mounting bracket with specified torque - arrows -.
Continued for all vehicles
- Install right drive axle.
- Install right wheel
- Change oil and filter --> [ Transmission, Changing Oil, Filter and Adjusting Oil Level ] Transmission, Changing Oil, Filter and Adjusting Oil Level.
- Install noise insulation
