Left Flange Shaft Oil Seal, Replacing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)
• Pulling hook (VW 771/37)
• Thrust piece (3305)
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove left wheel.
- Remove noise insulation
- Lower part of left front wheel housing liner, removing
- Remove left drive axle.
- Place appropriate receptacle underneath transmission.
- Remove bolts for flange shaft, by installing two bolts into flange and counter-holding flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Pull out flange shaft together with compression spring.
- Pull out seal for flange shaft using a slide hammer (VW 771) and pulling hook (VW 771/37).
Installing
- Lightly oil new sealing ring on outer circumference.
- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128).
- Drive new seal to stop; be sure not to distort seal.
- Insert flange shaft.
- Secure flange shaft with new conical head bolt and tighten to 30 Nm.
- Install left drive axle.
- Install left front wheel housing liner
- Install left wheel
- Change oil and filter --> [ Transmission, Changing Oil, Filter and Adjusting Oil Level ] Transmission, Changing Oil, Filter and Adjusting Oil Level.
- Install noise insulation
