Starter, Manual Transmission

Starter, 2.0L FSI Turbo and Manual Transmission

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

• Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 5024)

CAUTION!
When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the Repair information. Refer to --> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] .

Removing

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to --> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] .

- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Disconnect electrical connection - arrow -.





- Loosen spring clamps - arrow - using (VAS 5024 A).





- Pull off engine cover upward - arrows -.





- Slide protective cap in - direction of arrow - downward from magnetic switch.





- Remove positive wire - 1 - and disconnect harness connector of terminal 50 - 2 -.





- Remove the ground wire from the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the noise insulation..

- Remove the nut - 1 - from the lower starter mounting bolt.





- Remove wire retainer - 2 -.

- Remove the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the starter downward and out from the vehicle.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Tighten all fasteners to specified values. Refer to --> [ Starter Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

• Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 5024)

CAUTION!

Removing

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to --> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] .

- Pull off engine cover upward - arrows -.





- Disconnect harness connector - 1 -, loosen spring-type clamp - 2 - using (VAS 5024) and disconnect vacuum hose - 3 -.





- Slide protective cap in direction of - arrow - downward from solenoid.





- Remove positive wire - 1 - and disconnect harness connector of terminal 50 - 2 -.





- Remove the ground wire from the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the noise insulation..

- Remove the nut - 1 - from the lower starter mounting bolt.





- Remove wire retainer - 2 -.

- Remove the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the starter.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Tighten all fasteners to specified values. Refer to --> [ Starter Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332)

• Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 5024)

CAUTION!

Removing

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to --> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] .

- Pull engine cover upward - arrows A - and forward - arrow B -.





- Disconnect harness connector - 1 - and loosen spring-type clamp - 2 - using (VAS 5024).





- Disconnect vacuum hose - arrow - from air filter housing.





- Remove mounting bolt for air filter housing - arrow -.





- Release retaining tabs - arrows - and remove cover.





- Disconnect hose - arrow - from air filter housing and remove it.





- Pull off air filter housing upward out of brackets and remove it.

- Slide protective cap in direction of - arrow - downward from solenoid.





- Remove positive wire - 1 - and disconnect harness connector of terminal 50 - 2 -.





- Remove the ground wire from the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the noise insulation..

- Remove the nut - 1 - from the lower starter mounting bolt.





- Remove wire retainer - 2 -.

- Remove the starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the starter.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Tighten all fasteners to specified values. Refer to --> [ Starter Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.
