Starter, Automatic Transmission

Starter, 2.5L and Automatic Transmission

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331) (or corresponding 5 - 50 Nm)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1332) (or corresponding 40 - 200 Nm)

Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 5024)

CAUTION!
When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the Repair information. Refer to --> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] .

Removing

- Disconnect the battery. Refer to --> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] .

- Pull engine cover upward - arrows -.





- Disconnect harness connector - 1 -, loosen spring-type clamp - 2 - using (VAS 5024) and disconnect vacuum hose - 3 -.





- Pull off air filter housing upward out of brackets and remove it.

- Slide protective cap in direction of - arrow - downward from solenoid.





- Remove positive wire - 1 - and disconnect harness connector of terminal 50 - 2 -.





- Remove the noise insulation..

- Remove the nut - 1 - from the lower starter mounting bolt.





- Remove wire retainer - 2 -.

- Remove the lower starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the nut - 1 - from the upper starter mounting bolt.





- Remove wire retainer - 2 -.

- Remove the upper starter mounting bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the starter downward and out from the vehicle.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Tighten all fasteners to specified values. Refer to --> [ Starter Tightening Specifications ] [1][2]Specifications.
