Front Door Crash Sensors
• Removal and installation is described for the right-hand side of the vehicle. Removal and installation for the left-hand side is performed in the same manner.
Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags.
All vehicles
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove outer door plate.
- Separate wiring harness - 1 - from crash sensor - 3 -.
Vehicles with bolted crash sensors
- Remove the two bolts - 2 - (2.5 Nm) and the crash sensor - 3 -.
Vehicles with riveted crash sensors
- Drill out pop rivet - 1 -.
- Drill out pop rivet - 2 -.
- Disconnect the connector - 4 - from the crash sensor - 3 -.
Installing
Vehicles with bolted crash sensors
To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
Vehicles with riveted crash sensors
- Re-connect the connector - 4 - to the crash sensor.
- Attach the crash sensor to the subframe using a blind rivet - 2 -; use pop rivet pliers (VAS 5072).
- Attach the crash sensor to the subframe using a blind rivet - 1 - as described.
All vehicles
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.
- Connect vehicle battery..
Rear Wheelhousing Crash Sensors, Sedan
• Removal and installation is described for the right-hand side of the vehicle. Removal and installation for the left-hand side is performed in the same manner.
Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags.
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove seat bench. Refer to --> [ Seat Bench, Sedan ] Rear Seats.
- Remove side upholstery:
• with rear side airbags, refer to --> [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag ] Rear Seats.
• without rear side airbags, refer to --> [ Side Upholstery without Side Airbag ] Rear Seats.
- Remove wheelhousing trim. Refer to --> [ Wheel Housing Trim, Sedan ] Service and Repair.
- Press connector lock - 1 - toward rear - arrow - and disconnect connector - 2 - from crash sensor - 4 -.
- Remove the two bolts - 3 - (9 Nm) and the crash sensor - 4 -.
Installing
To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.
- Connect vehicle battery..
Rear Wheelhousing Crash Sensors, Wagon
• Removal and installation is described for the left-hand side of the vehicle. Removal and installation for the right-hand side is performed in the same manner.
Removing
CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags.
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Fold the bench seat and backrest forward.
- Remove side upholstery:
• with rear side airbags, refer to --> [ Side Upholstery with Side Airbag ] Rear Seats.
• without rear side airbags, refer to --> [ Side Upholstery without Side Airbag ] Rear Seats.
- Remove wheelhousing trim. Refer to --> [ Wheel Housing Trim, Wagon ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the wiring harness retaining tab - 1 - from the threaded pins - 4 - in the - direction of arrow -.
- Remove connector - 3 - from crash sensor - 2 -.
- Remove the two bolts - 5 - (9 Nm) and the crash sensor - 2 -.
Installing
To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.
- Switch on ignition.
CAUTION!
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.
- Connect vehicle battery..
