Voltage tester (V.A.G 1527 B)

Connector test set (V.A.G 1594 C)

Wiring diagram

Oil Pressure Switch, Checking

Test Conditions

Engine oil level OK. Refer to --> [ Engine Oil, Checking Level ] Testing and Inspection.

Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (radiator fan must start up once).

Test Sequence

For the functional check and servicing of the optical and acoustic oil pressure warning and "Function and Component Selection".

- Disconnect connector from oil pressure switch.

- Remove oil pressure switch - 2 - and install it into Oil Pressure Tester (V.A.G 1342).

- Install Tester in place of oil pressure switch into bracket.

- Connect brown wire - 1 - of tester to Ground (GND).

- Connect Voltage Tester (V.A.G 1527 B) using the adapter cables from the connector test set (V.A.G 1594 C) to the battery positive (+) and the oil pressure switch.

LED must not light up.

If LED lights up:

- Replace oil pressure switch:

Tightening specifications --> [ 7 , 22 Nm ] Service and Repair.

If LED does not light up:

- Start engine and slowly increase engine speed:

The LED must illuminate at 0.55 to 0.85 bar pressure. If it does not, replace the oil pressure switch.

Tightening specifications --> [ 7 , 22 Nm ] Service and Repair.

Oil Pressure, Checking

Conditions

The oil pressure gauge (V.A.G 1342) must be connected

Test Sequence

- Increase engine speed further.

At 2000 RPM and an oil temperature of 80 °C, oil pressure must be at least 2.0 bar.

Oil positive pressure must not exceed 7.0 bar at higher engine speeds.

If specification is not obtained:

- Replace oil filter bracket if necessary. Refer to --> [ Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.

Check for mechanical damage, e.g. bearing failures that can cause low oil pressure.
