HID Lamp
• The illustrations show how to replace the Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) on the left headlamp.
Removing
- Remove headlamp. Refer to --> [ Headlamps ] Headlamps.
- Rotate cover cap - 1 - in - direction of arrow - and remove it.
- Disconnect connector - 1 -.
• The connector is automatically ejected when the HID Lamp Igniter Unit (N195) is removed.
- Rotate the HID Lamp Igniter Unit (N195) - 1 - in direction of the word "OPEN" and remove HID Lamp Igniter Unit (N195) from headlamp.
CAUTION!
• There are pressures from 7 bar (cold) to 100 bar (hot) in the glass portion of the Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13). Temperatures up to 700 °C are reached on the hot glass bulb.
• The glass can explode and there is a danger of burning.
• When removing and installing the Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) always wear protective eyewear and gloves.
- Rotate lamp locking device - 1 - in - direction of arrow - and remove lamp locking device.
- Carefully remove the Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) - 1 - from mount.
Installing
• Do not touch glass cone when installing Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13). Fingers leave traces of oil on the glass cone which can evaporate when Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) is switched on, causing the glass cone to cloud.
• The Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) glass cone must not be placed under any mechanical strain. Glass cone is extremely sensitive and is also under high pressure.
• Avoid looking directly into focused light beam, since UV radiation from Left High Intensity Gas Discharge (HID) Lamp (L13) is approximately 2.5 times higher than that of standard Halogen lights.
• When installing cap, ensure proper seating. It is destroyed by ingress of water into headlamp.
• If a headlamp with automatic vertical headlamp range control is removed, perform headlamp basic setting after installation.
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
- Check headlamp for function.
- Check headlamp adjustment and adjust the headlamps.
