Brake Pads
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench 5-50 Nm (VAG 1331)
• Resetting & extracting tool (T10165)
Removing
When removing, mark the brake pads if they will be used again. Install them in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!
- Remove the wheels.
- Counter hold the guide pins and remove the bolts from the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake caliper and secure it with wire so that the weight of the brake caliper does not burden or damage the brake hose.
- Remove the brake pads and anti rattle clips - arrows -.
Cleaning
CAUTION!
Do not blow compressed air on the brake system components, the dust produced is harmful to health!
- Contact surfaces between the brake pads and the brake carrier must be cleaned, and remove any corrosion.
- Clean the brake caliper.
Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning the brake caliper.
Installing
Before pressing piston into the cylinder, some brake fluid must be extracted from the brake fluid reservoir. Otherwise, especially if the reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.
- Install the piston using the knurling wheel of the (T10165) by turning it clockwise. Do not damage the protective caps.
- To install, use (T10165/1) as an aid.
• For pistons that are difficult to move, an open end wrench (3 mm) can be used on the appropriate wrench surface - arrow A -.
- Insert the brake pad anti-rattle springs - arrows - and brake pads in the brake carrier.
- Make sure that the brake pads are located correctly in the anti-rattle springs - arrows -.
- Secure the brake caliper using new self locking bolts.
• The repair kit includes four self locking bolts which must be installed in all cases.
- Install the wheels..
• After replacing the brake pads and before moving the vehicle, always press the brake pedal firmly several times to properly seat the brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Check the brake fluid level after replacing the brake pads.
