Transmission and Engine, Separating and Assembling

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Shackle (10-222 A/12)

Shop Crane (VAS 6100)

Conditions:

The engine/transmission subassembly is removed.

Separating

- Remove the starter.

Engine with a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG):

- Remove the coolant hoses from the transmission oil cooler and seal off the openings.

Continuation for All Transmissions:

- Disconnect and free up all the electrical connectors between the transmission and the engine.

- Support the transmission using the workshop crane (VAS 6100) and the Shackles (10-222 A/12) but do not lift it.






- Remove the upper engine/transmission bolts.

- Before removing the last bolt, Tension the transmission with the shop crane.

- Remove the lower engine/transmission bolts.

- Separate the transmission from the engine; when doing this, guide the transmission.

Assembling

Assembly is performed in reverse order of removal; pay attention to the tightening specifications, refer to one of the following:

Vehicles with a manual transmission

Vehicles with a DSG
