Steering Mounted Controls Communication Module: Description and Operation

When disconnecting and connecting the Battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the repair information. Refer to=> [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

• After installing a new Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527) , it must be coded. Refer to=> [ Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module, coding ] Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527), coding.

• If steering column switch malfunctions occur, the coding of the steering column electronics control module (J527) must be checked. Refer to=> [ Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module, coding ] Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527), coding.

DTC Recognition and Display

The Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527) is equipped with OBD.

Use the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B) under "Guided Fault Finding".
