Left Flange Shaft and Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Slide Hammer-Complete Set (VW 771)
• Puller (VW 771/37)
• Thrust Piece (3305)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
Removing
• Transmission is installed.
- Remove the let wheel.
- If installed, remove the center and left part of the insulation below the engine/transmission.
- Turn the steering fully to the left lock.
- Remove the drive axle from the flange shaft.
- Mark the installed position of bolts/nuts - 1 -.
- Remove the bolts/nuts - 1 -.
- Tie up the drive axle as high as possible. Do not damage the paint on the axle shaft when doing so.
- Place an appropriate receptacle underneath the transmission.
- Remove the bolt for the flange shaft, by installing two bolts into the flange and counter-holding the flange shaft using a pry bar.
- Remove the flange shaft with spring.
- Remove the flange shaft seal using (VW 771) and (VW 771/37).
Installing
- Fill the area between the sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128).
- Using (3305), drive the new seal in until seated; be sure not to distort the seal.
- Install the flange shaft.
- Tighten the flange shaft bolt to 30 Nm.
- Install the ball joint to the lower control arm to the old impressions using new bolts/nuts.
- Install the left drive axle to the flange shaft.
- Install the left front wheel housing liner.
- Install the left wheel.
- Change the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) oil. Refer to => [ Oil Filter and Oil Level, Changing and Adjusting ] Testing and Inspection.
- Install the noise insulation.
