Mounting Bracket, GTI, Through 2009






Clutch Pedal and Hydraulics

Mounting Bracket

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Spring Type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024 A)

Sealing Tool (T10249)

Removing

- First check whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain the anti-theft code.

- Disconnect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned off.

- Remove the entire air filter housing, if it is located in the vicinity of the battery.

- Remove the battery and battery tray.

While performing the following work, make sure that no brake fluid comes into contact with the longitudinal member or with the transmission. If this happens, these areas must be cleaned thoroughly.

Place a lint free cloth under the master cylinder.





- Clamp off the supply hose to the master cylinder using the (3094).

- Loosen the spring clamp - 3 - using the (VAS 5024) and remove the supply hose from the master cylinder.

- Moreover, for disconnecting, seal it using the (T10249/1 ) (see the upper illustration).





- Release the securing clip - 2 - with a screwdriver or with a pointed tool and disconnect the hose/line assembly or plastic line - 1 - from the master cylinder.

- Unclip the clutch position sensor (G476) from the master cylinder - arrow - and remove it with the electrical harness connector - 4 - connected.

When working in the floor area, cover the carpet with a cloth to protect against any leaking brake fluid.

- Remove the trim panel on the driver side, as well as the covering under the trim panel.





- Remove the cable guide - 2 - from the steering column.

- Remove the footwell vents - 3 -.

There are different ways of securing the impact bolster - 1 - in front of the clutch pedal - 2 -.

Securing with two bolts

- Remove the impact bolster bolts and bolster - 1 -.





Securing with one bolt

- Remove the impact bolster bolt - 2 - and bolster - 1 -.





If equipped, the sound absorber - arrow - installed over the mounting bracket/clutch pedal needs to be removed.





- Remove the sound absorber lock washers - A -.





- Push the sound absorber in the area of the mounting bracket upper nut - 1 - up and over the clutch pedal - A - in the - direction of the arrow -.

- Remove the sound absorber.





- Remove the mount bracket nuts - 1 and 2 -.





The upper nut - 1 - is accessible between the relay carrier and steering column trim.

- Remove the mounting bracket - 3 -.

Installing

Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:

If equipped, the sound absorber - arrow - over the mounting bracket/clutch pedal needs to be reinstalled.





Replace the self locking nuts.

Replace the hose clamps.

Allocate all components via the parts catalog.

There are different ways of securing the impact bolster - 1 - in front of the clutch pedal - 2 -.

Securing with two bolts

- Install the impact bolster - 1 - and tighten the two bolts. Tightening specification, refer to.





Securing with one bolt

- Install the impact bolster - 1 - and tighten the bolt - 2 -. Tightening specification, refer to.





- Install the trim cover on the driver side, as well as the covering under the trim cover.

- Install the hose/line assembly or plastic line - 1 - with a new seal - 2 - to the master cylinder - 4 - until the securing clip - 3 - engages audibly.





- Gently, pull on the line to check the installation.

- Remove the (3094) and bring the supply hose back to its original shape.

- Bleed the clutch system. Refer to => [ Clutch System, Bleeding ] Procedures.

- Install the battery.

- If removed, install the air filter housing.
