Roof Edge Spoiler, GTI and R32

Removing

CAUTION!
Clean and tape off all adjacent components of roof edge spoiler and vehicle before working.

When removing the roof edge spoiler, do not use any cutting wire.





- Thread cutting cord - 6 - between rear lid - 1 - and roof edge spoiler - 4 -.

- Using a "sawing motion" of both pull handles - 5 -, carefully cut through adhesive bead - 2 - and adhesive bead - 3 - on both sides.

The center retaining hook is only present on vehicles from 02.05.





- Slide trim removal wedges (3409) (Qty. 5) between the rear lid - 1 - and roof edge spoiler where the - a arrows - on the illustration are shown until all the retaining hooks - 2 - are released. There is a distinct audible click when they engage.

The dimensions for the side retaining hooks are as follows:

- Dimension c - = 260 mm

- Dimension d - = 400 mm

The dimensions are from the center of the vehicle.

- Grasp spoiler and push spoiler - 3 - inward and upward simultaneously with wedges in place.

Installing

Check all retaining hooks for damage. It may be necessary install a new roof edge spoiler.





Retaining strip - 6 - is installed.

Brake light is installed in roof edge spoiler

Surfaces of roof edge spoiler - 3 - and rear lid - 2 - are primed.

- Apply adhesive bead to primed surface - 3 - or roof edge spoiler.

- Place roof edge spoiler - 5 - on retaining strip - 6 -.

- Align roof edge spoiler - 5 - to rear lid - 1 - and press roof edge spoiler into catch on retaining strip.

- With new rear edge spoilers, remove adhesive tape protective foil - 4 - and press roof edge spoiler firmly into retaining strip.

- With reused roof edge spoiler, secure corners to rear lid with commercially-available adhesive tape.
