Removing
- Switch off ignition.
Vehicles with Automatic Transmission
- Loosen boot from cover.
Vehicles with Manual Transmission and Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG)
- Loosen boot from cover.
All Vehicles
- Remove parking brake lever trim.
- Tip armrest - 1 - up.
Vehicles with CD changer
- Remove CD changer.
- Remove bolt - 4 - (1.5 Nm).
Vehicles without CD changer
- Remove trim - 2 - and screw - 3 - (1.5 Nm).
Vehicles with Cupholder
- Open beverage holder - 1 - and remove two bolts - 2 - (1.5 Nm).
- Pull cup holder out of center console.
• The cupholder must be closed when inserting it into the center console. Then open it and install the two screws - 2 -.
Vehicles with Storage Compartment
- Remove the two bolts - 3 - (1.5 Nm).
- Remove storage compartment - 4 - from center console.
- Remove trim panel - 1 - from mounts in lower area - arrow -.
- Remove trim panel from mounts in center console in upper area.
- Remove connector - 2 - from socket - 3 -.
- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - (1.5 Nm).
- Release extension - 3 - from mounts in lower area.
- Remove gear selector insulation - 1 - from center console.
- Remove the two bolts - 2 - (1.5 Nm).
- Remove storage compartment - 3 - from center console and (depending on vehicle equipment) disconnect wiring harnesses.
• An ashtray may be installed instead of the storage compartment - 3 -, removal is the same.
- Unclip cover - 1 - from trim using a small screwdriver.
- Remove bolt - 2 - (1.5 Nm).
- Pull left footwell trim - 3 - out of mounts.
• Removal of right footwell trim is identical.
- Using the Trim Removal Wedge (3409) , unclip the trim panels - 4 - on both sides in the area of the retainers.
- Remove lining mat - 1 - from cupholder.
- Remove the two bolts - 2 - and - 3 - (1.5 Nm).
- Remove the two bolts - 4 - and - 5 - (1.5 Nm).
- Remove bolt - 6 - (1.5 Nm).
• Install the screws in this sequence: - 2 -, - 3 -, - 6 -, - 4 - and - 5 -.
- Raise center console in rear area.
- Remove center console from vehicle.
• The carrier does not need to be removed for further removal of the instrument panel.
- Remove screw - 1 - (1.5 Nm) on left side.
- Remove two screws - 2 - (1.5 Nm) in rear area.
- Remove screws - 3 - and - 4 - (1.5 Nm) on right side.
- Loosen center console trim carrier - 5 - from mounts.
- Remove connector from Convertible Top Operation Switch (E137) and loosen wiring harness from mounts in carrier.
Installation
- Install in reverse order of removal.
