Head Curtain Airbag, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010

• The following describes removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

Removing

• Always read the General Safety Precautions before working on airbags, belt tensioners and battery cut-out units (pyrotechnical components). • Pay attention especially to the instructions for side airbag modules. Refer to => [ Side Airbag Module, Special Notes ] Side Airbag Module, Special Notes.

- Disconnect the battery.

- If equipped, open the Panorama sunroof.

- Switch off the ignition.

- Remove the front interior and reading lights.

- Remove visors => [ Basic Sun Visors, Passat from MY 2006 and Passat Wagon from MY 2006 ] Basic Sun Visors, Passat from MY 2006 and Passat Wagon from MY 2006.

- Remove the roof grab handles on vehicles without Panorama sunroof => [ Roof Grab Handles ] Service and Repair

- Remove upper trim on A-pillars => [ A-Pillar Upper Trim for Passat CC from 2009 and CC from 2010 ] A-Pillar Upper Trim for Passat CC from 2009 and CC from 2010

- Remove the upper B-pillar trim from the brackets => [ Upper B-Pillar trim, Tightening and Loosening from Mount for Passat CC from 2009 and CC from 2010 ] Upper B-Pillar trim, Tightening and Loosening from Mount for Passat CC from 2009 and CC from 2010.

- Remove the C-pillar trim:

• Vehicles not equipped with a sun shade => [ C-Pillar Trim, Vehicles without Sun Shade, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010 ] C-Pillar Trim, Vehicles without Sun Shade, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010

• Vehicles equipped with a sun shade => [ C-Pillar Trim, Vehicles with Sun Shade, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010 ] C-Pillar Trim, Vehicles with Sun Shade, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010

- Lower the headliner, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY2010, refer to => [ Headliner, Lowering and Installing, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010 ] Headliner, Lowering and Installing, Passat CC from MY 2009 and CC from MY 2010

Electrostatic discharges can lead to unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before disconnecting the ignition wire and ground wire. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the body or the door striker or pin.

- Using a small screwdriver, pry the connector lock out of the connector - 1 -.

- Disconnect the connector from the side curtain airbag.

- Remove the tensioning band - 3 - from the clips - 2 - and - 4 -.

- Place a flat O-ring pliers in both clip openings - 5 - and carefully remove the clips out of the opening in the body.

- Remove the clamps - 6 - from the body.

- Remove the remaining five clamps - arrows -, - 3 - from the body.

If one of the four clips were damaged while removing, the side curtain airbag must be replaced!

- Remove the bolt - 7 - (4.5 Nm).

- Remove the side curtain airbag - 8 - from the mounts in the body.






Installing

- Install in reverse order of removal.

- Switch on ignition.

Make sure no one is in the vehicle.

- Connect the battery.
