Brake Caliper
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (VAG 1331)
• Brake pedal actuator (VAG 1869/2)
Removing
When removing, mark the brake pads in case they will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!
- Remove the wheels.
- Unhook the brake cable from the lever on the brake caliper.
- Remove the spring clip and pull the brake cable from the holder on the brake caliper.
- Connect the bleeder hose from the bleeder bottle to the bleeder valve on the brake caliper and then open the bleeder valve.
- Install the brake pedal actuator (VAG 1869/2).
- Close the bleeder valve and remove the bleeder bottle.
- Remove the brake line.
- Remove both bolts from the brake caliper, counter hold on the guide pins when doing this.
- Pull off the brake caliper from brake carrier.
Installing
• Piston is pressed back into caliper.
• Brake pads sit in the anti rattle springs in the brake carrier.
- Secure the brake caliper to the brake carrier using the new self locking bolts.
- Install the brake line to the brake caliper.
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to => [ Brake System Bleeding General Information ] Brake System Bleeding General Information.
- Hook in the brake cable and secure it to the holder with the spring clip.
- Adjusting the parking brake. Refer to => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
- Install the wheels.
Tightening specification for wheel bolts.
• Before moving the vehicle, press the brake pedal firmly several times to properly seat the brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Check the brake fluid level.
