Brake Caliper

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (VAG 1331)

Brake pedal actuator (VAG 1869/2)

Removing

Work procedure applies only for replacing or when performing subsequent service work on brake caliper.

- Remove the wheels.

- Using screwdriver, pry off the brake pad retaining spring from the brake caliper and remove it.

- Disconnect the connector for brake pad wear indicator.

- Connect the bleeder hose from the bleeder bottle to the bleeder valve of the brake caliper and then open bleeder valve.

- Install the brake pedal actuator (VAG 1869/2).

- Close the bleeder valve and remove the bleeder hose.

- Remove the brake hose.

- Remove the caps.

- Loosen both guide pins and remove them from the brake caliper.

- Pull off the brake caliper from the brake carrier.

- Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper.

Installing

Piston is pressed back into caliper.

Outer brake pad sits on brake carrier.

- Insert the inner brake pad with retaining spring into the brake caliper.

When installing the brake caliper, make sure that brake pad is not affixed to the brake caliper before the correct installation position has been reached.

Do not damage the adhesion surface.

- Tighten the brake caliper to brake carrier using both guide pins.

- Install both protective caps.

- Install the brake hose to the brake caliper.

- Remove the brake pedal actuator (VAG 1869/2).

- Install the retaining spring to the brake caliper.

- Connect the brake pad wear indicator connector - 1 -.

- Bleed the brake system. Refer to => [ Brake System Bleeding General Information ] Brake System Bleeding General Information.

- Install the wheels.

Tightening specification for wheel bolts.

Before moving the vehicle, press the brake pedal firmly several times to properly seat the brake pads in their normal operating position.

Check the brake fluid level.
