Roof Insulation and Reinforcement
Removing
CAUTION: Observe safety precautions for working on airbags.
- If present, open sunroof.
- Disconnect vehicle battery.
- Remove sun visors.
- Remove roof grab handle.
- Remove lights and switch in molded headliner.
- Remove roof end strip
- Remove upper A-pillar trim
- Remove upper B-pillar trim. Belt anchors or front belt anchor rails do not have to be removed.
2-door only
- Remove seat bench .
- Remove backrest.
- Remove side trim.
4-door only
- Remove seat bench -Rear Seat Bench .
- Remove 4-door side upholstery:
- with rear side airbags.
- without rear side airbags.
All vehicles
- Remove luggage compartment cover side compartment
- Remove trim on C-pillars.
- Remove molded headliner.
NOTE: A different vehicle is shown as an example in the following illustrations. Removal and installation of insulation/reinforcements is same in Rabbit/GTI.
- Cut roof insulation/reinforcements - 1 - in direction of travel in strips approx. 6 cm wide - 2 - using a carpet knife.
- Pull off strips - 2 - from roof.
- Cut back adhesive residue - 3 - using electric cutter V.A.G 1561 A and cutting blade V.A.G 1561/20 - 4 -.
NOTE: If paint structure was damaged while removing roof insulation/reinforcements, paint damage must be repaired in accordance with specifications in Repair Manual Paint .
Installing
NOTE: Processing instructions of adhesive must be observed when installing roof insulation/reinforcements.
- Apply adhesive D 190 MKD A3 to insulation/reinforcements using cartridge gun V.A.G 1628 .
- Apply adhesive in beads on insulation/roof reinforcement.
- Dimension - a - = 58 plusminus 2 mm
- Dimension - b - = 25 plusminus 5 mm
- Transport roof insulation/reinforcements into vehicle through rear lid and press on to roof over the entire surface.
