Crimp Connector
Wiring Harnesses and Connectors, Repairing
Safety Precautions
CAUTION!
When performing repairs on airbag and seat belt tensioner wiring harness, use only terminals, connectors and wires designated for it.
CAUTION!
Be sure to read the information regarding repairing the wiring harnesses for the airbag and pretensioner.
Observe country-specific regulations.
Pay attention to decals designating high voltage components. When performing repairs, residual voltage must be discharged.
The wiring harnesses for the airbag and the pretensioner may be repaired only with the (VAS 1978 B). Refer to => [ Airbag and Belt Tensioner Wires, Repairing ]. Airbag and Belt Tensioner Wires, Repairing
Refer to User's instructions of (VAS 1978 B)
Crimp Connector
- Remove 6 to 7 mm of insulation on the ends of the wires using the (VAS 1978/3) in the (VAS 1978 B).
- For the repair, use a suitable crimp connector form the ( VAS 1978 B).
- Use the (VAS 1978/1-2) to press the crimp connector.
The following exchangeable heads are available for the (VAS 1978/1-2):
• (VAS 1978/1-1)
• (VAS 1978/2 A)
- Crimp the connector with the (VAS 1978/1-2).
After crimping, crimp connections must be heat-shrunk using ( VAS 1978/14A) to prevent moisture penetration.
- Attach the (VAS 1978/15A) on the (VAS 1978/14A) and warm the crimp connector starting in the center and working outward until it is completely sealed and adhesive starts to run out.
• This is how the completed repair location with individual crimp connector should appear.
CAUTION!
Risk of damaging surrounding components.
• When heat-shrinking crimp connections, be careful not to damage any other wiring, plastic parts or insulating material with the hot nozzle of the hot air gun.
• Always observe operating instructions of heat gun.
• Always use the same procedure on every pair of wires.
• Cut wires to be connected to length,
• Strip wire ends, position crimp connector and create crimp connection,
• Shrink down crimp connector.
• Make sure that no tension develops at repair location.
• When cutting wire lengths, ensure crimp connectors do not lie directly by each other. Otherwise the extent of the repair location will be too large. Position cut wire places so that wire connectors are arranged in a cascade.
- If you have created a wiring connector, wrap repair location with yellow insulation tape.
- Perform a function test.
