Crankshaft Sealing Flange, Ribbed Belt Side
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Trim removal wedge 3409
^ Assembly sleeve T03004
^ Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
^ Protective glasses
Removing
- Remove ribbed belt for A/C compressor.
- Secure crankshaft.
- Remove belt pulley on crankshaft.
- Remove tensioning element - 1 -.
- Remove bolts - 2 -.
- Begin at alignment bushings - arrows - to press off sealing flange - 1 - using a suitable screwdriver - A -.
- Use trim removal wedge 3409 to support screwdriver in order to prevent damage to sealing flange of cylinder block.
- Sealing flange is damaged while removing.
- Press off sealing flange completely.
Note:
^ After removing sealing flange, clean trim removal wedge 3409 which intended for the removal of parts of interior equipment.
Installing
CAUTION: To prevent injuries from shavings, wear protective goggles and protective clothing.
- Remove remainder of sealant from cylinder block e.g. using a rotating plastic brush.
CAUTION: Make sure that no sealant residue enters the engine.
- Clean sealing surface of cylinder block and crankshaft journals; they must be free of oil and grease.
Note:
^ Do not additionally oil or grease sealing lip of sealing flange!
^ The following work steps must be followed so that the sealing lip of sealing flange does not roll itself up when installing.
- Widen sealing lip of new sealing flange as depicted using assembly sleeve T03004
- The surface - A - is outer side.
- After a short time, remove assembly sleeve T03004 and slide it rotated 180 degree into sealing ring.
- Assembly sleeve T03004 must stand out approx. 3 mm on inner side - B - The surface - A - is outer side. The surface - B - is inner side (sealing surface).
- Cut tube nozzle at front marking (dia. approx. 2 mm).
Note:
^ The sealing flange for crankshaft (belt pulley side) must be installed within 5 minutes after application of sealant.
- Apply sealant bead - A - as depicted into groove of sealing flange.
^ Width of sealant bead: 2.5 to 3.0 mm
^ Height of sealant bead above sealing surface: approx. 1.0 mm
- Insert sealing flange using assembly sleeve T03004 on crankshaft journals and press uniformly on cylinder block.
- Tighten bolts - A - uniformly in diagonal sequence.
The rest of installation follows reverse of removal procedures. When doing this note the following:
^ Remove locking pin T40069 from cylinder block at rear and install plug.
Tightening torques
