Steering Column Switch Components, Removal and Installation Sequence
When disconnecting and connecting the Battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the repair information. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
• While removing the steering column switches, ensure that no shavings enter steering column switches when drilling the shear bolts.
Removal
When removing the complete steering column switches including base carrier, it is disassembled and steering lock housing is also removed with it. New shear bolts are required for installing steering lock housing. Also, if only one individual component of steering column switch is removed or replaced, the sequence described in the following must always be adhered to.
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the steering column trim.
Remove the steering column switch components in the following sequence:
• Steering column electronic systems control module (J527). Refer to=> [ Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module ] Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module (J527).
• Airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring (F138). Refer to => [ Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring ] Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring (F138).
• Steering angle sensor (G85). Refer to => [ Steering Angle Sensor ] Steering Angle Sensor (G85).
• Turn signal switch (E2). Refer to => [ Turn Signal Switch ] Turn Signal Switch.
• Windshield wiper switch (E). Refer to => [ Windshield Wiper Switch ] Windshield Wiper Switch (E).
• Base carrier for steering column switches. Refer to => [ Steering Column Switch Base Plate ] Steering Column Switch Base Plate.
Installation
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
