Shift Cable: Service and Repair






Selector Lever Cable, through 02.2009

After installation, the cable must be checked for ease of movement and must be adjusted.

Removing

- Place the selector lever in the "S" position.





Loosen the adjustment bolt - arrow -.





- Remove the lock washers - A and B -. The lock washers must later be replaced when adjusting the cable.

- Raise the vehicle.

- In order to remove the cable and/or selector mechanism, the heat shield and if necessary other exhaust system components must now be removed.

- Remove the shift mechanism housing nuts beneath the selector lever.





- Remove the circlip on the cable mounting bracket. Always replace the locking washer.





The shift housing is pushed forward on the cable.





The locking strap must be pushed forward in order to remove the cable - 1 -.





- Push the bolt upward at the same time with a screwdriver - 2 -.

- Insert the screwdriver from underneath while pushing the locking strap forward.





For Clarity:

- 1 - push the strap forward

- 2 - push the bolt upward





- Remove the selector lever cable.





Remove the shift housing from the cable

Installing

Do not grease the cable.

- Route the selector lever cable making sure it is free of tension. Attach it to the cable mounting bracket on the transmission. Do not secure it yet with the lock washers. Do not install the ball head.

- When installing, make sure the selector lever cable is routed correctly.





If the plate underneath is bent, there will be noises. The cable will then flap on the plate.

- Pay attention to the plate. Push it upward into the tunnel when installing.

- Mount the shift housing on the cable.

- Install the selector lever cable into the selector mechanism.





- Insert the cable into the bracket and then insert the bolt through the eye from the top





Install the locking washer only after having checked the cable for ease of movement. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking through 02.2009 ] Selector Lever Cable, Checking through 02.2009.

- Secure the cable with a new locking washer to the cable mounting bracket on the selector mechanism.





- Install shift mechanism housing, heat shield and exhaust system.
