Transmission Identification
Example - arrow -:
GKF - Transmission Code
10.05.2 - May 10, 2002
14 - Plant Code
14 15 - Time
001 - Serial Number
On some transmissions, additional code letters are applied at the top of the transmission in the vicinity of the selector lever cable - arrows -.
The transmission code is also listed on the vehicle data plate.
If the vehicle data label is not available, a different transmission was accidentally installed or there is no definite way to identify the installed transmission, read the transmission code letters directly from the transmission. Refer to => [ Reading off transmission code letters ].
Reading off transmission code letters
The transmission code letters are on the transmission in at least two different locations.
On the transmission near the selector lever cable - arrows -.
If these cannot be read or are on the head, the transmission code letters can also be read under the right transmission mount bracket.
In order to read off code letters under the bracket directly from the transmission, the engine with transmission must be supported. The left transmission mount bracket - A - must be removed. When doing this, it is important to lower the engine/transmission only far enough until the bracket can be slid toward the rear. If lowered further, the pendulum support could be damaged. After being assembled, the selector lever cable must be adjusted. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Adjustment, through 02.2009 ] Adjustments.
A detailed description on how to remove the bracket is not needed here. Refer to "Transmission, Removing; Transmission, Installing".
Short Description
Remove the air filter housing and battery.
Install the engine support bridge (10 - 222A) and support engine/transmission. Do not lift up.
- Remove the engine mount to bracket bolts - 2 - and engine mount bracket - A - bolts - 1 -.
- Then lower engine/transmission slightly using engine support bridge (10 - 222A) spindles until the bracket can be removed.
In most case, 2 turns on the spindles are enough to remove the bracket - arrow -.
- After installing the bracket, always adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Adjustment, through 02.2009 ] Adjustments.
