Fuel Delivery Unit
Fuel Delivery Unit (GTI, Eos)
NOTE:
- Fuel hoses at engine may only be secured with spring-type clamps appropriate for the model type.
- Spring clamp pliers VAS 5024A or Hose clamp pliers V.A.G 1921 are recommended for installing spring clamps.
Safety precautions when working on fuel supply system.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
- Wrench T10202
- Torque Wrench (40 to 200 Nm) V.A.G 1332
Removing
- Fuel tank may be a maximum of 3/4 full.
NOTE:
- Empty fuel tank using the fuel extracting device VAS 5190 if necessary.
- For a fuel tank assembly overview.
- Remove seat bench.
- Remove cover - 1 - with fuel pump control module - 2 - from fuel delivery unit.
CAUTION: Fuel supply line is under pressure. Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent injuries and contact with skin. Before removing from hose connection wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.
- Remove connector - 1 - and fuel lines - 2 and 3 - from flange.
NOTE: Press in securing ring to disengage the fuel lines.
- Open locking ring using wrench T10202 and raise flange slightly.
- Pull delivery unit and sealing ring out of fuel tank opening.
NOTE:
- If the delivery unit is replaced drain old delivery unit before disposal.
- Follow disposal regulations.
Installing
- Replace seal.
- Insert dry sealing ring of fuel delivery unit into opening of fuel tank.
- Coat the inner side of the sealing ring with fuel.
- When inserting fuel delivery unit into fuel tank, be sure not to bend sender for fuel gauge.
- Press locking flange down against spring pressure and bring it into installation position.
- Tab - 2 - on locking flange must lie between tabs - 1 - and - 3 - on fuel tank.
- - Arrow - points in direction of travel.
- Tighten locking flange to 110 Nm.
The rest of assembly is in reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:
- Do not interchange supply and return lines (return line is blue or has blue marking, supply line is black).
- Make sure lines connections are securely fastened.
- The - arrow - on the cover points in the direction of travel.
