Tail Lamps in Side Panel

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)

Removal

• Illustrations depict removal and installation of the right side. Removal and installation of the left side is performed symmetrically.

- Switch off ignition, switch off all electrical consumers and remove ignition key.


Do not operate brake pedal!


To remove the tail lamp in the side panel, cover - 1 - must be removed first.






- Push on the outer corner - arrow A - of cover - 1 -.

- Grasp behind the corner of the cover that is located on the seal - arrow B - and carefully pull off the cover in an upward direction.

- Make sure that cover - A - is pulled out of the individual retainers in the sequence - 1 - to - 4 -.






- Remove bolt - arrow A -.






- Pull out luggage compartment trim - 2 - under seal - 3 - and push it carefully away from the seal.






So that harness connector - 1 - can be disconnected, harness connector must be released from the retaining clip - arrow B -.

- Release retaining clip as follows:






- Press locking tab - 1 - in direction of - arrow A -.

- Slide harness connector - 2 - upward - arrow B -.

- Disconnect the harness connector by pressing the lock button toward the cable and simultaneously pulling the harness connector apart.






- Remove nuts - arrows A - and remove tail lamp toward rear out of side panel.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Secure tail lamp by first tightening upper flange nut - A - then the lower to 3 Nm.

• Adjustment elements, by which the tail lamp can be aligned to the rear lid and to the side panel, are located in both threaded pins of flange nuts - A -.

Tail lamp outer edge - arrow A - can be adjusted in both directions - arrow B -.






- Turn corresponding adjustment element - 1 - clockwise or counterclockwise until the outer edge of the tail lamp - arrow A - is flush with the body edges.

- Install bolt - A - and tighten it to 2 Nm.

- Attach cover - A - starting at the top and working downward - arrow 4 to arrow 1 - onto tail lamp - B -.






- Connect connector - 1 -.






Connector for tail lamp assembly must engage audibly when connecting.

- Engage harness connector in retaining clip - arrow B -.
