Oil Pump, Removing and Installing

Oil pump, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Torque wrench V.A.G 1331
^ Counter-holder tool T10172
^ Oil pump fixture T03005

Removing
- Remove upper section of oil pan.

- Tension chain tensioner - 1 -, secure it using Locking Pin T10115 and remove it.

- Remove bolts - 1 -.
- Hold chain sprocket - 2 - in place using retainer T10172.
- Remove chain sprocket from oil pump and remove oil pump.

Installing
^ Crankshaft is secured

- Replace O-ring and hand-tighten bolts with oil pump to cylinder block.
- Place chain sprocket with lettering facing outward on to oil pump shaft and firmly bolt it with a new bolt - 1 - (drive chain not yet installed).
- Tightening torque: 20 Nm plus an additional 1/4 turn (90°)

- Loosen bolts - 2 to 4 -. Oil pump must be able to be slid easily.
- Check that there are no shavings located on magnets of oil pump fixture T03005. Contact surfaces on crankshaft and chain sprocket must be clean.
- Place oil pump fixture T03005 on to crankshaft pin and bolt it with 2 bolts - 1 - of vibration damper/belt pulley.
- Tightening torque: 30 Nm

Oil pump is activated by magnets.

- Remove locking pin T40069.
- Press crankshaft in axial bearing play in direction of belt drive.

Note:
^ This work step is important in order to guarantee correct position of chain sprockets to each other.

- In this state, first tighten bolts - 2 - and - 3 - and then bolt - 4 - to 25 Nm.
- Install locking pin T40069 again. Crankshaft must only be rotated slightly around TDC point for this. Otherwise there is a risk the valves rest on pistons.
- Remove oil pump fixture T03005.
- If a new oil pump is installed, fill oil pump with some engine oil via intake channel and rotate oil pump several times through.
- Place drive chain on to oil pump chain sprocket.
- Install upper section of oil pan.

- Install glide track - 2 -, relieve tension on chain tensioner - 1 - and pull out Locking Pin T10115.

Note:
^ Make sure that drive chain lies correct in glide track - 4 - and in tensioning track - 3 -.

- Adjust valve timing.

The rest of installation follows reverse of removal procedures. When doing this note the following:
^ Remove locking pin T40069 from cylinder block at rear and install plug (30 Nm).
^ Fill with coolant.
