Tip:
This Technical Bulletin is in effect for 12 months from date of publication as listed above. After that date, this Technical Bulletin will expire and no longer be in effect.
Procedures must be performed ONLY on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory.
Tool Requirements
Vehicle must meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the (OV) code open on the ElsaWeb Campaign / Action Information inquiry screen on the day of repair.
- Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
- Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Bulletin.

A. Rear Deck lid, Inspect / Replace Gas Struts, up to VIN: 1Y_7M405010.
B. Rear Deck lid Lock Dampening Rubber, Installing (Only if Replacing Gas Struts).
Technical Background
A. To reduce efforts to close the rear deck lid, replacement struts with reduced closure force may be installed.
B. Due to the stiffness of the original lock dampening rubber, the rear deck lid may be difficult/hard to close.
Production Solution
A. Installation of reduce force deck lid struts beginning with VIN: 1Y_7M405011.
B. Installation of softer rear deck lid lock assembly dampening rubber beginning with VIN: 1Y_7M405011.
Service
Input VIN into Elsa and check Campaign / Action Information inquiry screen for open Code (OV).
A. Inspect or Replace Rear Deck lid Gas Struts
- Raise the rear deck lid and note support strut force number as indicated.If the number is 380N:
- Replace struts with Part No: 1Y0827550D (330 N), (see Repair Manual Group 55, Bonnet, flaps, cab, central locking, Rear Lid Assy Overview in ElsaWeb), and install lock dampening rubber Part No. 1C0827589B following the procedure below.
If the number is 330N:
- No further action required. Close out RVU using "OV11".
B. Install improved lock dampening rubber Part No. 1C0827589B:
- Open rear deck lid.
- Remove rear deck lid trim panel (see Repair Manual, Body Interior, Group 70 - Interior trim on ElsaWeb).
- Remove lock housing cover.
Tip: To remove lock housing cover, gently pry between the locking pawl and cover guides while pulling down on cover. Underside of cover shown for ease of location identification.
- Remove the lock dampening rubber by pulling downward out of lock housing.
- Install new rear lock dampening rubber Part No. 1C0827589B.
Tip:
Ensure proper engagement of lock dampening rubber retaining tab into the lock housing and is seated on the guide slots.
- Install lock housing cover.
- Install rear deck lid trim panel (see Repair Manual, Body Interior, Group 70 - Interior trim on ElsaWeb).
