Condition
An intermittent No Start condition may exist in ambient temperatures below 4°C (40°F):
^ The vehicle cranks but does not start after sitting for long periods or over night
^ The electronic immobilizer light is flashing
^ The vehicle cannot be started with any of the keys
When the concern can be reproduced the following fault codes may be present:
^ P1570 in 01 - Engine Electronics
^ 01176 in 25 - Immobilizer
Tool Requirements:
VAS 5051/5052 or VAS 5051 B scan tool with GEKO
Service
- Verify if the instrument cluster has already been updated:
- Tilt the steering wheel down in order to see the white label on the bottom of the instrument cluster.
^ If the letter "C" is printed on the label the part has already been updated
^ If the letter "C" is not on the label, a new instrument cluster has to be ordered for the vehicle based on the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Note:
If the condition exists, and the instrument cluster has been updated, follow normal diagnostic procedures.
- Replace the instrument cluster with one of the following, see Repair Manual Group 90 - Instruments for procedure
^ 1C0 920 501 B 1.9L diesel engine, manual transmission
^ 1C0 920 501 L 1.9L diesel engine, automatic transmission
^ 1C0 920 501 N 2.5L gas engine, manual transmission
^ 1C0 920 501 P 2.5L gas engine, automatic transmission
Tip:
The updated clusters will have the same part number as the old part however they will be marked with the letter "C" as mentioned above.
- Make note of the odometer mileage of the vehicle.
- Replace the instrument cluster and adapt it using the GFF plan.
- Verify the correct odometer mileage setting of the new instrument cluster after the replacement.
Note:
It may take up to 6 attempts to program the instrument cluster. If after 6 attempts instrument cluster does not program, contact the Volkswagen Dealer Technician's Helpline.
