Undamaged Rear Window, Removing (Wagon)
- Remove trim for tailgate.
- Remove rear wiper arm.
- Disconnect connector - 1 - at wiper motor.
- Disconnect hose - 2 - for washer nozzle.
- Remove nuts - arrows - and remove wiper motor.
- Remove phillips head bolts - 2 -, disconnect harness connector - 3 - and remove brake lights - 1 -.
- Disconnect harness connectors for heated rear window and press connector tabs onto window.
- Loosen sealing lip from window flange all around using plastic wedge and spray in Cleaning solution D 009 401 04 (as a substitute for lubricant).
- Bond window flange at bottom with fabric reinforced adhesive tape - arrow -.
- Insert guide needle - 2 - from Window removing kit V.A.G 1755 using handle - 1 - under sealing lip and push through adhesive bead (use side areas, wear gloves).
Hold guide needle as close to glass as possible (do not damage heating element).
- Remove handle - 1 - and thread cutting cord through eye of needle.
- Using pliers and wearing gloves, pull one end of cutting cord into vehicle interior.
- Using tube - 1 -, guide in cutting thread between lip and window flange (if cutting cord breaks, a cutting cable can also be used).
- For very narrow gap dimensions, guide cutting cord from outside and press under lip using plastic wedge.
- Place cutting cord around window as shown.
NOTE: Press in cutting cord far enough to prevent damage to lip/spacer.
- Pull through outer cord end inward and counterhold using Pulling grip V.A.G 1351/1.
- Secure inner cord end to Spooling tool V.A.G 1654.
- Position Spooling tool V.A.G 1654.
- Move Spooling tool V.A.G 1654 according to position required and cut windshield free.
- While cutting free, press cutting cord against window using plastic wedge in order to have clearance from window flange.
- In place of Spooling tool V.A.G 1654, Spooling tool V.A.G 1654 A can also be used.
- As shown in illustration, one suction cup can be removed from Spooling tool V.A.G 1654. By doing this, roller of Spooling tool V.A.G 1654 A can be placed closer to window flange.
