Shift Mechanism, Removing and Installing

Shift mechanism, removing and installing, 01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)

Removing
^ Carefully pry off shift lever boot from center console.
^ Remove shift knob with shift lever boot.
^ As of 11 00, remove shift knob with shift lever boot.





^ Rubber cover for shift mechanism housing must be unscrewed - arrows -.





^ Remove mounting nuts - arrows - for shift mechanism housing.
^ Disconnect rear exhaust system behind catalytic converter, remove front exhaust system if necessary.





Remove shift mechanism from transmission as follows:
^ Remove shift rod - arrow A -.
^ Remove shift rod, to do so remove socket head bolt - arrow B -.
^ Remove front shielding plate over exhaust system.
^ Swing shift mechanism housing together with shift rod and pivot rod downward and remove.

Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Note the following.





^ Push shift rod on so that securing bolt fits into recess of shift rod.
^ Secure shift rod - arrow A - first.
^ Secure pivot rod to transmission - arrow B -.
^ Assemble exhaust system.
