Shift Mechanism, Adjusting
Shift mechanism, adjusting, 01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)
Note:
^ Requirements for a correct shift adjustment are the following points:
^ Components of shift mechanism and linkage must be in proper working condition.
^ Shift mechanism must move freely
^ Furthermore, transmission, clutch and clutch mechanism must be in proper working condition.
^ Transmission in neutral
^ Carefully pry off shift lever boot from center console.
^ Remove shift knob with shift lever boot.
^ As of 1100, remove shift knob with shift lever boot.
^ Rubber cover for shift mechanism housing must be unscrewed - arrows -.
^ Measure distance between chassis and shift mechanism.
^ Distance - a - must be 41 mm.
^ If this is not the case, produce dimension - a - as follows:
^ Loosen bolt - arrow - for pivot rod.
^ The connection, pivot rod/shift mechanism must move freely.
^ Produce dimension - a - by sliding the shift mechanism.
^ Tighten bolt - arrow - for pivot rod to 25 Nm.
^ Loosen bolt - arrow - for shift rod.
^ The connection, shift rod/shift mechanism must move freely.
^ Align shift lever so that it is positioned vertically.
^ It must point slightly toward rear in direction of travel - a -.
^ Tighten bolt for shift rod to 25 Nm.
^ Install covers and shift knob
Function
^ Shift lever must rest in 3rd/4th shift gate when transmission is in neutral.
^ Operate clutch
^ Shift through all gears several times. Pay particular attention to function of reverse gear lock.
^ Shift lever should return by itself from the 5th/reverse gear and move into 3rd/4th shift gate.
^ Reverse gear must then only be able to be selected when shift lever is located in gate of 3rd/4th gear at idle.
^ From 5th gear, it must not be possible to perform a direct shift into reverse gear.
Note:
^ If a direct shift is possible, or if only 5th gear and reverse gear cannot be engaged, the 5th and reverse gear lock must be checked and replaced if necessary
