Right Flanged Shaft Oil Seal, Replacing
Right flanged shaft oil seal, replacing, 01V, 5 SPD. A/T (AWD)
^ Observe general repair notes.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required:
^ Extractor lever VW681
^ Right sealing ring installer 3382
^ Torque wrench 550 Nm V.A.G. 1331
^ Torque wrench 40-200 NM V.A.G. 1332
^ Sealing grease G052128A1
Removing
^ Loosen bolt for drive axle/wheel hub and wheel bolts only when vehicle is standing on its wheels.
^ Remove wheel.
Vehicles with TDI engine
^ Remove noise insulation for right drive axle from wheel housing - arrows -.
All vehicles
^ Remove shielding plate/drive axle - arrows - on right side. The third bolt is not visible in the illustration.
Continued for all vehicles
^ Remove right drive axle - 1 -.
^ Remove bolt for flanged shaft - arrow - and secure against turning using a drift.
^ Place drip tray V.A.G. 1306 underneath.
^ Pull out right flanged shaft.
^ Pull out flanged shaft oil seal.
Installing
^ Coat outer circumference and sealing lips of sealing ring with axle oil.
^ Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with sealing grease G052128A1.
Installation position: The open side of the sealing ring faces the transmission.
^ Drive new seal in as far as the stop; be sure not to distort seal.
^ Install right flanged shaft.
^ Screw in bolt for flanged shaft - arrow - and secure against turning using a drift.
^ Install right drive axle - 1 -.
All vehicles
^ Install shielding plate/drive axle - arrows - on right side. Third bolt is not visible in the illustration.
Vehicles with TDI engine
^ Install noise insulation - arrows - for right drive axle to wheel housing.
Continued for all vehicles
^ Install left wheel.
^ Check axle oil in front final drive with transmission installed.
