Seal, removing, 01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)
^ Rear final drive installed
^ Remove rear part of exhaust system from clamping sleeve(s).





^ Check whether there is a factory marking (color marking) on driveshaft. If not, mark location of driveshaft flange - arrow A - to rear final drive - arrow B - with color.
^ Disconnect driveshaft from rear final drive and tie up at exhaust system clamps.
^ Place Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with universal transmission support V.A.G 1359/2 under final drive and secure final drive.





^ Remove securing bolts - arrows - of left transmission support.
^ Lower final drive carefully until flange is accessible.
^ Mark position of securing nut for pinion shaft with color.





Determining dimension "a" and dimension "b"
^ Distance of flange to pinion shaft = Dimension "a"
^ Distance of flange to securing nut for pinion shaft = Dimension -b-
^ Take note of determined dimensions
^ Count number of turns when unscrewing securing nut and write it down.

Note: The following work procedure in the illustration is shown with differential removed.





^ Install retainer 3028 and remove pinion shaft nut.

Note: Re-use previously installed hex nut for securing flange to pinion shaft. Otherwise the original installation position will not be found again.

^ Place drip tray underneath.





^ Pull off flange using puller VW 391.
^ Thread two hex head bolts M8 x 30 - A - into flange.





^ Pull out seal.
