Drive axle, removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required





^ Engine/transmission jack VAG 1383 A

Removing
^ Remove drive axle hex bolt.





^ Remove drive axle heat shield - arrows -.
^ Unbolt drive axle at flange shaft.





^ Remove socket head bolt - 1 -.
^ Disconnect ABS vehicle speed sensor - 2 - from wheel bearing housing.
^ Disconnect connector behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) and remove rear part of exhaust system.





^ Place engine/transmission jack e.g. VAG 1383 A under control arm.
^ Raise control arm slightly.
^ Drive axle out of hub with a plastic head hammer if necessary.
^ Remove drive axle.

Installing





Further installation is in reverse sequence of removal.
