Axle shafts, removing and installing

Removing
^ Remove axle shaft hex bolt. (Only loosen when vehicle is resting on the wheels - risk of accident-).
^ Remove wheel.





^ Unbolt axle shaft at flange shaft.

1. Hex key head bolt or multi-point key head bolt

^ Pull ABS speed sensor wiring out from retainer on brake caliper - arrow -.
^ Remove ABS speed sensor from wheel bearing housing.





^ Remove nut - 1 -, remove the hex bolt, and pull both control arms - 2 - out upward.

Slits in the wheel bearing housing must not be widened using a chisel or similar tool!

If hex bolt cannot be removed from wheel bearing housing, then the hex bolt and links - 2 - must be pressed out of wheel bearing housing Separating connections between upper control arms and wheel bearing housing.

Note:
^ Do not loosen bolts - 3 - and - 4 - otherwise the front axle alignment is changed!

^ Swing wheel bearing housing in direction of - arrow - away to side.
^ Remove axle shaft.

Installing
^ Insert axle shaft onto transmission shaft and into wheel bearing housing.
^ Insert upper links into wheel bearing housing, insert new bolt and tighten new nut.
^ Push upper control arms down as far as possible while tightening bolts!
^ Bolt axle shaft to transmission.
^ Install inner joint of axle shaft and initially tighten bolts diagonally to 10 Nm.

^ Push ABS vehicle speed sensor into wheel bearing housing onto stop and insert cable in retainer on brake caliper.
^ Install and fasten wheel Wheel mounting.
^ Tighten axle shaft hex bolt only with vehicle standing on its wheels -risk of accident-.
