Clutch Pedal and Over-Center Spring, Removing and Installing

Clutch pedal and over-center spring, removing and installing, 01A, 5 SPD. M/T (AWD)

Removing
^ Remove storage compartment on drivers side.





Make sure that Clutch Pedal Switch F36 - 3 - is not pressed out of bracket. Then, Clutch Pedal Switch F36 becomes damaged and must be replaced.

In order to assure sufficiently secure seating, Clutch Pedal Switch F36 - 3 - must not be installed more than once.





Release operating rod/master cylinder from clutch pedal as follows:
^ Insert a standard needle-nose pliers - 1 - into clutch pedal recesses.
^ Press mount - 2 - together.
^ Pull clutch pedal gently into passenger compartment.
^ Pull operating rod and mount to engine compartment from clutch pedal in direction of - arrow





^ Press securing device - arrow 1 - for clutch pedal off from pivot pin using a screwdriver.
^ Remove bolt - arrow 2 -.
^ Press clutch and brake pedal pivot pin toward right, until clutch pedal can be removed.
^ If necessary, press securing clip for brake pedal off pivot pin using screwdriver.
^ Remove clutch pedal and over-center spring.

Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Note the following:





^ Align pivot pin for clutch and brake pedal so that it protrudes out of mounting bracket on clutch pedal side - arrow -.
^ Press clutch pedal to stop and insert over-center spring into mount on clutch pedal.
^ Connect clutch pedal to pivot pin and press it toward left until securing clip can be installed.

Connect operating rod/master cylinder to clutch pedal as follows:





^ Mount - A - must be located on operating rod - arrow - of master cylinder.
^ Insert mount into guide on clutch pedal and press clutch pedal to bulkhead until it engages, make sure correct engaging while doing so.
^ To check engaging, pull clutch pedal gently into passenger compartment and press both ends of mount to clutch pedal using screwdriver.





^ Tighten bolt - arrow 2 - if both securing clips ( - arrow 1 - ) for clutch pedal, securing clip for brake pedal (not depicted) are installed on pivot pin for clutch pedal/brake pedal.
^ Adjust Clutch Pedal Switch F36.
