Selector Mechanism, Removing and Installing

Selector mechanism, removing and installing, 01V, 5 SPD. A/T (AWD)

Removing
^ First check whether a coded radio is installed. If this is the case obtain the anti-theft coding.
^ Place selector lever in position "P".
^ Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap with ignition switched off.
^ Remove selector lever handle.
^ Remove center console and extension.
^ Remove cover.
^ Disconnect electrical harness connectors.
^ Unclip locking cable from locking lever and from securing spring at selector mechanism, slightly lift up securing spring to do so.
^ Raise vehicle.
^ Remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter if necessary.
^ Unbolt propshaft from transmission and tie up or support.





^ Remove cover from selector mechanism housing - arrows -.





^ Press ends of locking clip - B - together and remove.
^ Remove securing plate - A - for selector lever cable at selector mechanism downward.
^ Pull selector lever cable off selector lever.
^ Remove nuts (4 pieces) from above.
^ Remove selector lever mechanism housing downward.
^ Pull selector lever cable out of selector mechanism at the same time, do not bend selector lever cable while doing this.

Installing
^ Selector lever and lever/selector shaft in position "P" (park lock must engage).
^ Raise vehicle.
^ Shift the lever/selector shaft at the transmission in "P" position. Catch must engage in parking lock gear, both front wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).
^ Slide boot of selector lever cable and cover for selector mechanism housing on selector lever cable.
^ Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
^ Guide selector lever cable into selector lever mechanism housing.
^ Attach selector lever mechanism housing to structure.
^ Tighten nuts (4 pieces) from above.
^ Connect electrical harness connectors.
^ Install and adjust locking cable.
^ Install cover.
^ Place selector lever in position "3".
^ Install selector lever handle.
^ Grease ball socket of selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease G052142A2.
^ Connect selector lever cable to selector lever.

Installation position:
Angled end of securing plate - A - points toward the end of the selector lever cable.





^ Install securing plate - A - for selector lever cable to selector mechanism housing.
^ Press ends of locking clip - B - together and slide onto the end of the selector lever cable.
^ Install cover. While doing this, note position of seal.





^ Tighten nuts - arrows -.
^ Check adjustment of selector lever cable and adjust if necessary.
^ Check ignition key removal lock.
^ Connect propshaft to flange.
^ Install front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter if necessary.
^ Install center console and extension.
^ Connect battery Ground (GND) strap.
^ Check selector mechanism.
^ Code radio.
^ Initialize electrical window regulators, set clock.
