Selector Lever Cable, Checking and Adjusting



Selector lever cable, checking and adjusting, 01V, 5 SPD. A/T (AWD)

Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry lever - rmv outside mirror 80-200:




Torque wrench 550 Nm V.A.G. 1331:








^ For vehicles with auxiliary heater, remove bolts - arrows - from exhaust pipe at noise insulation.





^ Remove noise insulation - arrows A and B -.
^ For vehicles with noise insulation - D -, remove bolts - arrows C -

Vehicles with V6- and V8-engine
^ Removing front exhaust system with catalytic converter.





^ Remove bolts - 1 - and - 4 - and remove shielding plate/selector lever cable - A -

Continued for all vehicles
^ Removing left transmission support.





^ Pry off selector lever cable from selector shaft lever - arrow -
^ Shift selector lever from "P" to "2".
^ Selector mechanism and selector lever cable must move freely. If necessary, replace selector lever cable or service selector mechanism.
^ Place selector lever in position "P".
^ Shift the lever/selector shaft at the transmission in "P" position. Catch must engage in parking lock gear, both front wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).
^ It must be possible to press selector lever cable on to lever/selector shaft. Adjust selector lever cable if this is not possible.
^ Press selector lever cable carefully onto lever/selector shaft using pliers; while doing so, do not deform lever/selector shaft, else shifting cannot be precisely adjusted any more.

Adjusting
^ Selector lever cable is disconnected from selector shaft lever.
^ Place selector lever in position "P".
^ Shift the lever/selector shaft at the transmission in "P" position. Catch must engage in parking lock gear, both front wheels are locked (cannot be turned together in one direction).





^ Loosen mounting bolts - arrows 1 - of bracket at transmission.
^ If required, loosen selector lever cable at bracket - arrow 2 -. During this, counterhold at hex socket - arrow 3 -.
^ Grease ball socket of selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease G052142A2.
^ Press selector lever cable carefully on lever/selector shaft - 2 - using pliers.





Do not deform selector shaft lever when pressing on or else shifting cannot be precisely adjusted any more.
^ Align selector lever cable tension-free into longitudinal holes on bracket.





^ Tighten bracket/transmission - arrows 1 - to tightening torque.
^ Tighten selector lever/bracket - arrow 2 - to tightening torque. During this, counterhold at hex socket - arrow 3
^ Check selector mechanism.
^ Install left transmission support.

Vehicles with V6- and V8-engine
^ Install heat shield/selector lever cable.
^ Install front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter.

^ Install noise insulation - arrows -.
^ In vehicles with auxiliary heater, bolt exhaust pipe firmly to noise insulation.
