Power Steering Pump: Testing and Inspection
Power steering pump delivery pressure for vehicles with 4-cylinder engines, checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required:
^ Hose clamps 3094
^ Power steering test unit V.A.G. 1402
^ Adapter V.A.G. 1402/3
^ Clamp off intake and return line using hose clamps 3094.
^ Position drip tray underneath.
^ Remove banjo bolt - 1 - and place pressure line to side.
^ Screw adapter V.A.G. 1402/3 into power steering pump in place of banjo bolt.
^ Screw power steering test unit V.A.G 1402 onto adapter V.A.G 1402/3.
^ Close gauge shut-off valve (lever to left).
^ Remove hose clamps 3094.
^ Start engine and if necessary add fluid to reservoir.
^ Read off gauge pressure with engine at idling speed (do not measure longer than 10 seconds). Specification: 110 to 120 bar
Note: If the pressure is not to specification, replace pump.
^ Check power steering fluid level.
^ Check steering system for leaks.
^ Bleed steering system.
