Components of ABS System on Rear Axle (Vehicles With FWD)






Components of ABS system on rear axle (vehicles with front wheel drive) removing and installing
1 - Clip
2 - ABS speed sensor
^ Before inserting sensor, clean hole inner surface and coat with lubricating paste G 000 650
3 - Axle beam
4 - Backplate
5 - ABS speed sensor rotor
^ If damaged or dirty, remove together with wheel bearing/hub module
6 - Wheel bearing/hub module
^ Removing and installing
7 - Hex socket head bolt
8 - Brake disc

Removing and installing ABS wheel speed sensor on rear axle (vehicles with Front Wheel Drive)

Special tools and equipment





^ 80-200 pry lever- removing outside mirror

Removing
^ Remove rear seat.
^ Remove lower C pillar trim.





^ Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor harness connector -arrow A- and push out grommet -arrow B-.
^ Loosen wheel bolts.
^ Raise vehicle.
^ Remove wheel.





^ Disconnect ABS wheel speed sensor wiring from retainers (arrows).
^ Remove clip from ABS wheel speed sensor.





^ Pry ABS wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing module using special tool 80-200.

Installing
^ Before inserting ABS wheel speed sensor, clean inner surface of bore hole and coat speed sensor with solid lubricant paste G 000 650.





^ Push ABS wheel speed sensor -1- into wheel bearing housing unit by hand until it stops. Installation position: Lug -A- faces toward front on the left-hand side and the rear on the right hand side.
^ Insert clip -2- for speed sensor.

Note: When routing ABS wheel speed sensor wiring note:





^ The ABS wheel speed sensor wiring -1- is to be routed next to the brake line -2- on both sides as illustrated.





On the left-hand side there must be a clearance of approximately 2 cm between the exhaust system heat shield and the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring.





On the right-hand side, ABS wheel speed sensor wiring -1- must be routed between the fuel lines -2-.

Checking rotor on rear axle

Special tools and equipment





^ 80-200 pry lever- removing outside mirror

^ Raise vehicle.





^ Pry ABS wheel speed sensor out of wheel bearing module using special tool 80-200.
^ Check rotor for damage and dirt by looking through speed sensor mounting hole in wheel bearing housing.
^ If rotor is damaged or dirty, remove wheel bearing module and replace.
