Rear Seatbelt With Belt Tensioner - Assembly Overview
CAUTION:
- Belt tensioner units must be removed before starting any separation work, repairs or bulge corrections.
- On the seatbelts with belt tensioner described in this chapter, there is the risk that not all ignition stages of the belt tensioner have ignited in a crash. Currently, there is no possibility to check this with workshop tools available. For this reason, these ignited seatbelts with belt tensioner are to be disposed of as belt tensioner units that have not ignited.
1. Seatbelt with belt tensioner
- Retaining tabs determine position of automatic belt retractors
2. Hex bolts
- 40 Nm
3. Standard lock
4. Belt guide
5. Phillips-head screws
- 1.5 Nm
6. Seatbelt guide
7. Oval head bolt
- This bolt is installed in Passat wagons only.
- 5 Nm
Rear seatbelt with belt tensioner, removing and installing (Passat Wagon)
NOTE: The illustrations cover only the right side of the vehicle, the left side of the vehicle is the mirror image.
- Switch ignition off.
- Fold seat cushions of rear seats forward.
- Remove luggage compartment cover.
- Remove right rear backrest (two parts).
- Remove storage area floor covering.
- Remove rear lock carrier cover (Wagon).
- Remove storage area trim (Wagon).
- Unscrew bolt -1 - (40 Nm) and remove belt end fitting - 2 - from body.
NOTE: When installing, markings -3- and -4- must align to guarantee correct installation position of components.
- Remove cover -1 - from belt guide bracket -2 -
- Remove belt guide bracket - 2 - from belt guide.
- Remove bolts -1 - and - 2 - (5 Nm) and remove belt guide - 3
- Remove bolt -1 - (5 Nm).
- Unscrew bolt - 2 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractor - 3 - from mount in body.
- Guide seatbelt tab - 4 - and belt end fitting - 5 - through opening in body.
Rear seatbelt with belt tensioner, removing and installing (Passat Sedan)
NOTE: The illustrations cover only the right side of the vehicle, the left side of the vehicle is the mirror image.
- Remove seat bench.
- Remove rear backrest (one piece).
- Remove upper C/D-pillar trim (Sedan).
- Remove cover -1 - from belt guide bracket - 2
- Remove belt guide bracket - 2 - from belt guide.
- Loosen hex nut - 2 - and remove lock bolt - 3 -.
- Pull upholstery -1 - in upper area out of clip - 4 -, press lower tab - 6 - to rear from sill panel - 7 - and remove upward with tab - 5 -.
- Unscrew bolt -1 - (40 Nm) and remove belt end fitting - 2 - from body.
NOTE: When installing, markings -3- and -4- must align to guarantee correct installation position of components.
- Remove bolts -1 - and - 2 - (5 Nm) and remove belt guide - 3 -.
- Unscrew bolt -1 - (40 Nm) and remove automatic belt retractor - 2 - from mount in body.
- Guide belt sliding tab - 3 - and belt end fitting - 4 - through opening in body.
Installing
Installation is the reverse order of removal.
